Clarksville Middle School Band: The Story

The Clarksville Middle School Band program is widely recognized for outstanding performances as one of the finest performing middle school ensembles in the state of Maryland.  Consistently CMS has among the highest number of students selected for Howard County GT ensembles as well as MMEA Junior All-State Band, Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra, among other ensembles.

Preparing our students for a global, 21st century society Clarksville Middle School (CMS) is an engaging learning community that prepares students to be leaders in a diverse and dynamic world. Clarksville's talented and caring staff is committed to the achievement and wellbeing of all students. Our success is due to the contributions of knowledgeable staff, supportive parents and intellectually curious students. The school's focus on equity and relationships supports students' learning as they meet the challenges of a rigorous curriculum, which promotes deep understanding of all academic subjects. Many students finish their 8th grade year with high school credits in Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry. Furthermore, Clarksville's students can earn high school credit in French and Spanish by the end of their 8th grade year.

Student-voice is encouraged and empowered at Clarksville Middle School. Students take an active role in many school-wide activities, including celebrating inclusion, planning cultural nights and coordinating various philanthropic efforts. Annually, students compete in local, regional and national academic competitions. This year we celebrated our school's winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

CMS has a robust performing arts program, in which students consistently receive superior ratings at county-level music assessments. Clarksville Middle School is proud of its PARCC scores with an average of 85% of all students meeting or exceeding expectations in math and ELA. The school's goal is to inspire, engage and challenge every student to reach his or her full potential.
